ABOUT BØDTCHER

Why the name Bødtcher Design?
When Mette Bødtcher was a very young dancer, her mother, Jonna Bødtcher, knitted legwarmers and jumpsuits for her by hand. Jonna's knitwear became very popular among Mette's colleagues, and they started ordering some of her things. Soon new styles were designed, and Jonna - now on a hand-driven machine - created a whole collection inspired by the dancers of the Royal Danish Ballet. Many of the styles in her collection were named after the dancers who had inspired her to - or maybe even helped her - create the specific style.
In 2001 Jonna Bødtcher decided to stop her little handmade business. “I am getting older, I have four grandchildren, I need time for other things in life” were her arguments. Her decision raised an outcry in the Royal Danish Ballet, and the dancers convinced Mette to put her mother's collection into production.
Some styles have had to go, others have been designed, but the story continues: The collection of styles in “Bødtcher” - Danish Dance Design is made from the needs and fashion of the dancers of the Royal Danish Ballet.
Mette Bødtcher sold her part of the company to Annette Hesselbjerg Lund in July 2008.
